On November 13, 2023, Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University hosted a presentation of the European Union Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module “Radiation Safety: European-Ukrainian Approach” (101127143-RISE-UP-ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH) for students from Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University.

Valentyna Yakubiv, First Vice-Rector of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, inaugurated the event and elucidated the program’s details and benefits. She emphasized the internship and academic mobility opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ program, allowing students to develop their skills and enhance their competitiveness in the job market.

Volodymyr Kotsiubynskyi, the Project Team Leader and Head of the Department of Materials Science and New Technologies, presented the concept, primary objectives, and practical aspects of the Jean Monnet Module. He highlighted the direct link between the project and the Erasmus+ program, which aims to actively implement innovative methodologies and strengthen international relations of the university environment. Implementing this project in university education holds strategic significance, enabling Ukrainian students to access modern approaches in the field of radiation safety that align with the latest European Commission standards. This knowledge exchange augments educational quality and nurtures the scientific potential of Ukrainian universities.

The aim of the project is to develop a system of multidisciplinary knowledge about the nature of radioactive radiation and radiation hygiene in the context of harmonizing Ukraine’s state policy with the requirements of the European Union in the field of radiation safety. It embraces multidisciplinary approaches spanning nuclear energy, physics, engineering, biology, medicine, law, and social regulation. This holistic approach equips students with the competences necessary to implement the European Commission’s vision for controlled nuclear energy utilization. Overall, the project is an important step forward for Ukraine in implementing modern standards and innovations in the field of radiation safety, which will contribute to the training of highly skilled professionals.

The event not only underscored the project’s significance but also fostered unity within the student community, offering them a chance to engage in an innovative educational paradigm. Participants expressed their support and eagerness to collaborate for the successful implementation of the project into the educational process.
