On 28 February, Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University hosted a training session titled “Radiation Safety: Medical and Biological Aspect” for students majoring in Medicine. The event was organised as part of the EU Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module project “Radiation Safety: European-Ukrainian Approach” (101127143-RISE–UP–ERASMUS–JMO-2023-HEI–TCH–RSCH).
During the training session, future doctors learned about the effects of different doses and types of ionising radiation on the human body. Participants had the opportunity to calculate the absorbed, equivalent, and effective doses over a 24-hour period in various regions of Ukraine, as well as assess the risk of developing cancer due to radioactive exposure.
Particular attention was given to the relevance of this topic in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the potential threats to the civilian population. Knowledge of radiation safety enables future doctors to respond effectively to emergencies, protect public health, and mitigate risks for the population in the event of radiation hazards.
Such training sessions not only enhance students’ professional expertise but also develop their readiness to work in extreme conditions.
