On May 15, as part of the implementation of the EU Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module project 101127143-RISE-UP-ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH “Radiation Safety: European-Ukrainian Approach” (RadiatIonSafety: European-UkrainianAPproach), a training session titled “Radiation Safety: Legal Aspect” was held for students of the Law specialty at Nadvirna Vocational College of the National Transport University.
The participants were welcomed by the project coordinator, Head of the Department of Applied Physics and Materials Science, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Kotsyubynskyi, who outlined the purpose and objectives of the event, as well as the goals of the project and the relevance of radiation safety for Ukrainian society.
The training was moderated and conducted by Professor of the Department of Labor, Environmental and Agrarian Law, Doctor of Law, and member of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, Professor Nadiia Kobetska. She presented to the students a modern vision of the legal mechanisms regulating the field of nuclear energy and radiation protection, emphasizing the alignment of Ukrainian legislation with European standards.
During the session, participants became acquainted with the evolution of European Union legislation in the field of nuclear energy use and radiation safety, the fundamentals of licensing activities involving sources of ionizing radiation, as well as international and national regulatory acts concerning radioactive waste management.
