To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated on 11 February, an interactive lecture was held at the “Kvant” Biophysics Laboratory of Kolomyia Lyceum No. 9 under the Kolomyia City Council. The lecture focused on the physical, technical, biomedical, and legal aspects of using “green” nuclear energy in the complex geopolitical conditions of modern Ukraine, considering EU policies.
The event was organised as part of the project “Radiation Safety: European-Ukrainian Approach” (101127143 — RISE-UP — ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH), implemented with the support of the European Commission under the Jean Monnet Programme. Its goal is to demonstrate that being informed means being protected.
The participants of the event explored a range of important topics, including the physics of nuclear reactions, the principles of operation and classification of nuclear reactors, sources and effects of radioactive radiation on the human body, and protection methods in the event of a nuclear accident or the use of nuclear weapons.
Particular attention was given to encouraging young people to choose educational programmes related to STEM, both at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and other institutions across Ukraine.
We believe in Ukraine’s technological breakthrough!
We are grateful to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to teach.
